Garment prep — the difference between average and perfect photography

Why garment preparation accounts for 50% of photo quality?

The biggest mistake webshop owners make is sending garments straight from packaging to the shoot. Creases, static electricity and transport-deformed shapes show in every pixel — and no software can remove them perfectly. At KoFol Koncept studio, every garment goes through preparation before it ever faces our Sony ZV-E10 camera with Sigma 18-50mm lens.

Step by step: how we prepare every garment

The process starts with a garment inspection — we check seams, labels and any damage which we document upon receiving. Then comes steam pressing or steam treatment that doesn't damage fabric like direct ironing. Collars, sleeves and hems are carefully shaped. For knitwear we use special clips that hold the form during shooting while remaining invisible in the final image.

What should you do before sending garments to the studio?

Garments should arrive clean and dry — washing removes odours and potential stains that could show in photos. Sorting by fabric type helps us group items and speed up the process. Each piece should have a label or mark matching your order list to avoid mix-ups. The better you organise your shipment, the faster you receive finished photos — our turnaround for up to 20 items is 24 hours.

Fabrics that require special attention

Silk, satin and viscose react differently from cotton or polyester. Leather and faux leather require special treatment to avoid steam marks. Knitted fabrics deform easily if the wrong temperature is used. Our team is trained on all fabric types — if in doubt, feel free to contact us before shipping and we will advise you on the optimal packing and transport method.
